Kindergarten Library

I realized the brilliance of Dr. Seuss while teaching kindergarten.  If you have an emerging reader of your own or students who are eager to expand their fluency, buy Dr. Seuss books; Specifically, buy Hop on Pop! I bought a classroom copy for my reading table after Christmas.  Every Friday, we would forget about the basal and read Hop on Pop.  The students could choose any 2 pages they wished to read.  It was instant scaffolding.  For my low readers, simply sounding out the CVC words was cause for celebration.  For my middle group, we worked on gaining fluency in CVC and sight words.  For my higher group, I pitted them against one another to see who could read the pages the most fluently with the least mistakes.  During free center time, I caught students hiding in corners practicing reading the book.  It was $5 well spent!

-at Slider
Print on card stock or laminate.  Cut small slits on the black lines before "-at."  Thread the letters through the slits so that as you pull, -at words are made.  This resource can be changed to teach all word families.
To incorporate writing, have students write the words they make.
Scaffolding:
low- Have a pre-made sheet where the students write the word on a blank then draw a line to the matching picture on the other side of the page.
middle- Have students write each of the words on a piece of paper then choose one word to use in a sentence.
high- Same as middle, but challenge them to use more than one of the words in their sentence(s).
*The preview does not have the lines or letters in the correct place.  The downloaded version is correct.
